Professional Coaching!
I’m trying as hard as I can!
Are you trying as hard as you can?
Are you trying as hard as you can? Are you tired and frustrated? Do you want more but can’t quite figure it out? Are you formally diagnosed or have an inkling suspicion that your habits are more than what an unjust society labels as ‘laziness’?
What is ADHD?
ADHD as a term is one of the more misunderstood and ill-defined in our modern mental health discourse. ADHD as an experience, as a life-factor, can be profoundly frustrating, limiting, and painful to the ADHD individual and those in their life. It can also be profoundly beautiful, creative, and uplifting to the ADHD individual and those in their life!
What is ADHD Coaching?
Coaching is not therapy, it is not mentoring, it is a highly specific process designed to immediately influence the circumstances, motivations, and patterns in an individual’s life. It can be an immensely impactful and meaningful factor towards feeling more comfortable, more in control, and happier.
I myself am ADHD (language I use very specifically) and care deeply and passionately about helping others fully realize and actualize their ADHD lives.
So: are you trying as hard as you can? Are you tired and frustrated? Do you want more but can’t quite figure it out? Are you formally diagnosed or have an inkling suspicion that your habits are more than what an unjust society labels as ‘laziness’? ADHD Coaching is likely perfect for you!
What is Executive Function?
Easily THE major buzzword in education, Executive Function (or EF) refers to a broad range of mental operations ranging from organization and time management to emotional regulation and metacognition. Every person, neurodiverse and neurotypical, engages in EF tasks daily.
What does Executive Function look like?
OK, you finish up with work for the day, pack your things, and head home (or, contemporarily, maybe you shut your computer down already at home). Doesn’t it feel different for a bit? Like you have to completely change gears? Well, you do! It’s called Changing Cognitive Set and it’s hard for everybody! If you take the cognitive energy required to change cognitive set at a baseline and add to that equation the amount of energy to hold yourself together whether due to ADHD, anxiety, depression, or any of the other major comorbidities, this can become a nigh insurmountable task that, from the outside, looks like nothing.
How can Coaching help with Executive Function?
Maybe you want to be more organized, maybe you want to get a better handle on how your emotions influence your ability to work or study, maybe you’ve heard the term ‘Executive Function’ and you’re curious about what exactly this thing is. Likely you’ve simply never been taught these skills and are assumed to have perfect proficiency despite this. Likely you’re simply an individual in the 21st century trying your best and you need a little help. Good news: Coaching is highly effective and can even be enjoyable!
It says ‘Executive.’ Eh?
It’s two or more things linked together!
ADHD and Comorbidity
80% of people with ADHD have one or more of the ‘major comorbidities’. Let’s talk about it!
Depression and Anxiety
The stressors of living a life in a structure that barely deigns to acknowledge you exist and at times can be actively hostile towards you are immense. It’s completely reasonable and appropriate to respond to these circumstances by developing acute to severe and chronic anxious or depressive patterns. It’s OK! There are many ways coaching can help your experience, from helping develop new patterns and new perspectives to assisting in seeking out resources and supports. You’re not alone and you deserve to feel stable and secure!
Autism Spectrum Disorder
It’s a real race to the bottom of what we know less about, ADHD, ASD, Bipolar Disorder, really anything outside the commonly accepted set of behaviors that line up with the expected neurotypical experience. ADHD and Autism are more commonly linked than you’d think. A lot of the time this is merely similar behaviors developing from different origins, sometimes this is a real and significant difference in perspective that requires specific attention! While not Autistic myself I have, through many years of experience and practice, cultivated knowledge and skills that align with the type of Coaching needed for AuDHD individuals.
There ARE rules that govern how you operate and you deserve to be given the opportunity to discover and apply those rules on your terms. Coaching can help to provide the consistency and safety needed to do so.
